Falcons End Season With OT Loss To Triway, Mogadore Girls End Season With Loss
The Field girls opened the OHSAA tournament with Triway on Saturday February 15th and came away losers by a 39-38 score in overtime. Not much seemed to go right for the Falcons, who played their second game without the vacationing Sydney Kline. Cassie Spaite got the start and did hit two three pointers that were sorely needed. Maria Sziva scored 22 points, but shot about a million times to do so. She was 11 of 14 at the free throw line. Field closes out the season at 13-10, while Triway moves on with a 9-14 record.
Mogadore (7-16) had some ups and downs this year. Last year they won two games, this year they won seven and had several games in which a basket here, or a basket there might have produced more wins. They surprised many by getting a home tournament game, but there is where the magic ended. On Wednesday February 19th Jeromesville-Hillsdale came to town and managed to end the Wildcats year by a 42-39 score. The game was tight throughout, as one might expect from a number 8 and number 9 seed, thus the game wasn't really decided until the last two minutes when some sloppy play by both teams dictated the outcome. Hope Murphy, Mogadore's only senior, finished her career with a 14 point effort, while junior Sami Karasek got 10 points, including 6 for 6 from the charity stripe.
Gilmour Academy Ends Field Boys Year 73-30, Lake Center Edges Mogadore 81-78
The Field Falcons (3-20) opened and closed their OHSAA tournament run on Tuesday February 25th by losing 73-30 to Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills. Well no one really expected that the Falcons could beat Gilmour, who was seeded #4 in the Stow District bracket, but most hoped for a little closer game. The loss ends Field's season with their 20th loss against three wins. On the bright side, the Falcons graduate just two seniors, Nevada Lowden and Mason Campanelli. So as the fans look to next year for better results, these same fans will hope that the returning lettermen and JV's will work hard during the off season. The fans will also wonder if the coaching staff will be back, or will Field have to endure another one-and-done season for Ben Swinerton, Cliff Gulley and Mariah Siedler? Go Falcons!
Mogadore's (18-4) 10 game win streak came to an end at home on Friday February 21st when the Tigers of Lake Center Christian School went home with a hard fought 81-78 win. Mogadore jumped out to a 19 point first quarter lead and must have felt they had things in hand, BUT, LCCS simply outplayed the Wildcats for the next three quarters. Lukas Swartz led the Wildcats with 25 points, but he struggled from deep. Dylan Jones and Aaron Morris had 12 each and Nate Stephenson dropped in 11. The biggest play was an odd technical foul on Morris late in the fourth quarter that greatly helped LCCS to maintain their momentum. The Wildcats open OHSAA tournament action on Friday February 28th at home at 7:00 PM against Rittman, who beat Cuyahoga Heights 56-42 in the opening round.
The boys OHSAA tournament drawings were held on February 9th and the Field Falcons were the #13 seed in the Stow Division II District. They will open the tourney at #4 seeded Gilmour Academy on Tuesday February 25th at 7:00 PM. Mogadore drew the #2 seed in the Norton Division IV District and will open with a home game against the winner of the Rittman (#7 Seed) and Cuyahoga Heights (#10 seed) game. Mogadore's game will be on Friday February 28th at 7:00 PM.

The Suffield Township Board of Zoning Appeals met on Tuesday January 21st for their annual Re-organizational Meeting and elected new officers for 2020. Taking some sound advice from long-time member Don Monroe, the BZA elected Andy Grow as chairman and Vickie Vincent as vice chairman. A hearing on property located at 1205 Martin Road followed with the Board granting a variance to Gerald Altizer, allowing him to purchase property from his neighbor and combine it with his lot, thus creating one larger parcel. Goodyear had operated the park since the 1960's as a private playground for its employees and for corporate retreats. As the company footprint grew smaller in the Akron area Goodyear decided to close the park in 2006.
