The Suffield Township Board of Trustees met on Tuesday November 28th before a small turnout of four citizens.  Several things of importance were discussed.  Scott McBroom, Road Department chief, said that the leaf dump at 558 Etter Road will be open a little longer this year than in the past due to the trees holding onto their leaves a little longer.  As of now, the plans are for the leaf dump to be open until "about the middle of December".  Residents are reminded to stay in the area permitted and not to go there after dark.  We will report the actual closing date as soon as that issue has been decided.

Chief Robert Rasnick's report as brief.  All is well at the Fire Department.  The firefighters did some training and handled 58 calls for service.  Scott McBroom reported that the Road Department did some culvert work and a driveway approach and have prepared the equipment for the winter's first snowfall.  He also asked for and received $3,500 to buy parts to repair the John Deere mower.  The Road Department will do the repairs themselves as time permits.

The big news came from Zoning Inspector Adam Bey. The derelict property at 1560 Carriage House Drive has been a sore subject for the trustees and especially the neighbors in the Carriage House allotment.  On Monday November 27th the Portage County Sheriff offered up the property for sale and there was a buyer.  According to the Sheriff's Office, Derek Deacon bid $37,100 for the property and made the standard $5,000 deposit.  While this doesn't mean the situation is resolved to the satisfaction of the township or the neighbors, it is another step in the right direction.  The trustees will have to get new warrants and schedule new inspections, after which another public hearing must be held before the house can be demolished.  They deferred on scheduling the public hearing until the county prosecutor has weighed in.

This meeting represents the last public meeting to be held in the "administration building".  Realtor Lauren Luli begins her lease of the building on December 1st.  From this point forward all trustee, Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals meetings will be held in the Suffield Township Community Room, located in the Fire House.  The trustees meet next on Tuesday December 12th at 8:00 PM.  The Zoning Commission continues its work on the 20-year Land Use Plan on Wednesday December 13th at 7:00 PM.  This Thursday November 30th the Board of Zoning Appeals has a hearing scheduled at 8:00 PM concerning use of some acreage on Randolph Road.  There the Paradise Lake Country Club wants to use the land for a driving range and to grow sod.  And don't forget Christmas With Santa on Sunday December 10thSanta arrives at the historic Town Hall at 6:30 PM.

Annual Township Clean-Up Day Canceled For 2020

The Portage County Solid Waste Management District and the Suffield Township Board of Trustees announced that the annual "Clean-Up" Day for 2020 has been canceled.  You can bet that the COVID-19 coronavirus played a major part in this decision, but trustee Jared Phillip speculated that the Solid Waste District has been considering doing away with the collection of old tires as another likely reason.  Regardless, these governmental agencies are hoping to have a "Clean-Up" Day in 2021.

When buying new license plates, or renewing them, be sure the registrar at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles knows that you live in Suffield Township.  If you simply state your address as Mogadore, the road tax funds, which should go to Suffield Township, will go to Mogadore Village, due to your zip code.  Keep your tax money in the township!
